I have spent my entire adult life and career in service to others as a Professional Helper in some capacity or another. My journey began as a Counsellor working with adults with complex developmental delays, and I made the transition from providing services and support to an institutionalized population, to serving the same individuals living in inclusive, community-based environments. From that first role, I then transitioned toworking with vulnerable families within their homes and communities, and in 1994, I took on a position as Program Co-coordinator, and then Executive Director, of a Family Resource Centre, where I served for approximately sixteen years, as Parent and Family Educator, Program Developer, and Organizational Leaderand Advocator for at risk families and their children. I have also had the opportunity to work in Adult Educator roles in two different Provincial Community Colleges, where I was privileged to be able to share some of my knowledge and expertise to help train others, both adults with unique learning needs, and students seeking to enter the professional Counsellor Field in some capacity. Over the course of my professional lifetime, I havepursued various educational pathways to develop my skill set and expertise as a Practitioner and I have been in private practice, as a Registered Professional Counsellor since 2005. Both my personal and professional life experiences have taught me that to offer ourselves to others when they may be at their most vulnerable and in need of a catalyst for change, is among the most rewarding and fulfilling of human service. My professional philosophy is a simple one. I believe personal and positive growth and change can happen when we have the good fortune and opportunity to intersect with the right person at the right time in our lives that can help us make the change we need and want to make. I regard it to be a pleasure and a privilege when I can be that person who intersects with another and contributes to that change when it is needed. That is why I do this work.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in meeting individuals, couples, and families where they are at, helping them to identify their change goals, and with their active participation, develop pathways forward to pursue those goals. My professional style or orientation can most appropriately be described as a combined or eclectic one that is diversely experienced, and draws upon a variety of recognized sources of theory and therapeutic models. This work often requires the ability to adopt a variety of different roles ranging from that of a clinical therapist, educator, facilitator, and others, and I pride myself in my versatility to assume different professional postures as required.
ADDITIONAL TRAININGS
Each client may request a free initial consultation. This is not a therapy session, but rather a chance to meet and get a feel for how we can connect and work together.
During this consultation, we may discuss the fees and policies as we decide if we are a good fit to work together.
Why do we call our price list an investment instead of a cost? By definition, cost is just an expenditure of money, time, or resources while an investment is an expenditure that is sent out because it has the possibility of a return. We say investment instead of cost because you are not simply expending resources, you are investing in yourself, your health and well-being.
